Substitute Vocational Nursing Instructor

The Instructor is to facilitate learning, create a learning environment, and evaluate progression of learning for vocational nursing students. Instructor must be able to relate well with students, faculty members, and administrators, maintain calm demeanor during difficult circumstances, and exhibit professionalism at all times.
The Nursing Instructor reports to the Program Director of Nursing for Vista College for planning, implementing, and evaluating the activities of the VN Nursing Program in compliance with all federal, state, and for accrediting agency regulations.
•Be a nurse currently licensed or have privileges to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Texas; or in accordance with the rules of the nurse Licensure Compact (provide a valid, current nursing license from state of issue).
•Have been actively employed in nursing for the past 3 years or have advanced preparation in nursing, nursing education, and/or nursing administration.
•Have had three years of varied nursing experience since graduation ; and
•Show evidence of teaching abilities and mainlining current knowledge, clinical expertise and safety in subject area of teaching responsibility.
•Diploma and ADN considered, BSN and MSN preferred
•Long term, med-surg, home health, and acute care experience a preferred
•Teaching experience is preferred, not required but commitment to learning desired
•Basic computer skills in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Participate in coordination and quality assurance to the overall program.
•Provide education and supervision of students in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical areas.
•Participate in planning, implementing, and evaluating the teaching learning process in the classroom, laboratory, and clinical setting.
•Facilitate student success in meeting the Differentiated Entry Level Competencies set forth by the state regulatory for nursing.
•Participate as liaison with established clinical affiliation agencies.
•Follow and ensure student compliance with agency protocols and policies.
•Participate in student evaluation process of class/clinical performance
•Develop and maintain an environment conducive to the teaching/learning process
•Participate in student progress and retention.
•Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the School and various regulatory agencies for the VN program.
•Maintaining open lines of communication inter and intra-departmentally.
•Demonstrate ability to problem solve issues with students and/or colleagues.
•Serve as a member of standing nursing committees in the department
•Attend and participate in subcommittee meetings as scheduled
•Participate in selection of textbooks, library, audio-visual acquisitions, and other instructional support material.
•Utilize technology appropriate to classroom and clinical/lab instruction.
•Participate in professional development strategies to maintain professional nursing licensure.
• Willing to work within the philosophy framework of Vista College Program.
•Works effectively within a group, or independently, is student oriented
•Maintains required teaching load
•Participate in recruiting and recommending prospective faculty for employment.
•Perform other duties as may be required and commensurate with job description.
- Work is normally performed in a typical interior/classroom work environment.
- May be required to travel to different sites according to class schedules.
- Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to stand or walk for entire class periods (approx. 4.5 hours at one time).
